BIOGRAPHY

Columnist, critic, dining editor, lecturer, and radio and TV commentator for over three decades, Sheldon Landwehr has been widely recognized for his remarkably astute restaurant reviews and articles, appearing regularly in the New York Post and scores of other publications. He has also written a dozen popular books on America's restaurants, giving the most rewarding and captivating summation of America's gifted dining establishments, their masterful approach to gastronomy, and their treasured recipes. He has appeared on the National Science Network (WNCN Radio in New York and affiliated stations in Chicago and on the West Coast), in his own show, sponsored by Grand Marnier, that flourished for many, many seasons. He has been seen on countless television shows, including Regis Philbin and as a regular on "The All Night Show" out of Toronto.

Sheldon Landwehr is not a toady. He doesn't respect sacred cows. He writes his conscience, and his writing has set the standard for honest communication in restaurant coverage and for credible reviews.

Over the years, Sheldon Landwehr has taken his readers into the real world of restaurants and dining establishments -- sometimes haute, sometimes declasse; sometimes huge, sometimes bijou; sometimes mainstream, sometimes weird -- but always the true picture. His readers have been guided on and off the beaten path to restaurants that are the epitome of excellence or places to be avoided like the plague. His reviews have covered all kinds of establishments, from the highest to the most lowly, from places with ballroom dancing to trendy nightclubs, from "in" spots to establishment oldies. And his readers know that what they will find in his columns is straightforward pointers on where to eat -- and what to dodge.

Sheldon Landwehr began as a columnist in 1960 with Theatre Magazine. After a couple of years, he left to join the venerable Theatre Arts Magazine. Throughout the 1970s and '80s, Landwehr wrote columns and features for such diverse publications as Penthouse, Cuisine, Madison Avenue, Long Island Magazine, Genesis, Cue, Fine Dining, Playbill, The Dial, Vintage, Status, Embassy, Film Bill, Puerto Rican Diary and a number of other magazines dedicated to good living, as well as producing a column in the Daily News. In 1987, his column surfaced in the New York Post, where he continues to appear regularly.

Sheldon Landwehr is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association.
